The 2025 <\/span>Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival<\/span><\/a>, held on April 12-13 and 19-20, is one of San Francisco\u2019s most vibrant spring celebrations, bringing the heart of Japantown to life with cultural performances, food, parades, and family-friendly fun. With over 200,000 attendees expected each year, visitors can expect attractions and venues to be packed and parking hard to come by \u2013 but you can focus on the fun and avoid stress as long as you prepare by arriving early, reserve a parking spot in advance, or use alternative transport.<\/span><\/p>\n

The annual event celebrates Japanese and Japanese American traditions while the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom. This has been a tradition in SF\u2019s Japantown since 1968 when the first festival was held after the Japan Trade Center opened in March of that year. The Center was renamed to Japan Center Malls in the 1970s and continues to host activities and events that showcase the history and heritage of Japanese and Japanese Americans who settled in Northern California.<\/span><\/p>\n

San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival Highlights<\/b><\/h2>\n

Held for two weekends this year, there\u2019s no shortage of things to do at the 2025 SF Cherry Blossom Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the two weekends, April 12-13 and 19-20, visitors can get their fill of Japanese culture and enjoy stunning cultural exhibits, such as Japanese tea ceremonies, Ikebana (flower arranging), calligraphy, and martial arts demonstrations. The Peace Plaza, where you can take in the beauty of the iconic cherry blossoms in full bloom, is also filled with unique craft booths and local artisan products that visitors can browse and try for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

Foodies are in for a treat because an assortment of Japanese street food will be available at the bazaar stalls located at Webster Street, between Post & Sutter Streets: from savory Takoyaki to sweet mochi and refreshing matcha treats that will surely satisfy Japanese food cravings. There\u2019s also a variety of activities and workshops on traditional Japanese arts and crafts for kids at the Children’s Cherry Blossom Village located at Post St. between Fillmore\/Webster.<\/span><\/p>\n

The highlight of the festival is the Grand Parade which will be held on April 20 from 1-3 PM. The parade will wind through Japantown and showcase traditional Japanese performances, elaborate costumes, and lively marching bands.<\/span><\/p>\n

The kick-off and finale are definitely a must-see, so arrive early on April 12 and set the mood with the Spring Tea Ceremony, held at Hokka Nichi Bei Kai from 11 AM until 3 PM.
